*Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga* will debut soon, expanding the *Mad Max* franchise. The film follows young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) seeking revenge for childhood trauma. Fans anxiously await this backstory.

Based on *Mad Max: Fury Road* and *Furiosa* marketing, Furiosa’s origin will involve losing her arm, a crucial plot point. Taylor-Joy hints in an Entertainment Weekly interview that this moment is pivotal for her character’s development.

“These were crucial steps in charting the evolution of this beloved character,” Taylor-Joy elaborated. “Her refusal to succumb to adversity is remarkable, and it made perfect sense that she would sacrifice her arm for a cause she believed in deeply.”

What Is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga About?

Kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers, young Furiosa’s fate takes a sinister turn when she is captured by a formidable biker horde led by warlord Dementus. Their relentless journey through the Wasteland brings them to the Citadel, ruled by the tyrannical Immortan Joe. Amidst the clash between these two ruthless leaders, Furiosa embarks on an unwavering quest to reclaim her home.

George Miller directed and co-wrote the script for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” with Nico Lathouris. The film stars Tom Burke, Lachy Hulme, Nathan Jones, John Howard, Angus Sampson, Charlee Fraser, and Daniel Webber.

Why Is Mad Max Getting a Prequel?

Miller conceived the idea for Furiosa while developing the narrative for Fury Road, recognizing the compelling nature of the story and its potential for further exploration.

“We aimed to create a fast-paced story with minimal exposition in ‘Mad Max’,” explained Miller. “We alluded to Furiosa’s backstory, the Green Place of Many Mothers, and the Citadel’s workings, but never fully explained them. This screenplay was initially intended to provide context for Furiosa and the film’s elements. However, we realized it had potential as a standalone story and hoped to tell it if ‘Fury Road’ was successful.”

Miller explained the backstory behind “Fury Road,” which spans three days and two nights, was created to explain its world. Miller and Nico Lathouris wrote a novel-length backstory explaining what happened to Max the year before the events of the film. They also fleshed out the backstories of each character, including the Doof Warrior, to explain their survival and existence in the wasteland.

The release date for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is set for May 24th.
