Netflix has officially begun production on âFear Street: Prom Queen,â a new installment in the horror movie series based on R.L. Stineâs books. Like the previous trilogy, which transported viewers to different eras, this new entry will take place in 1988. While the initial trilogy was kept largely secret during production, Netflix is taking a more transparent approach this time around, sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the upcoming terror.
âFEAR STREET: PROM QUEEN is now filming,â Netflix enthused in its caption. âGet ready for a thrilling adventure at Shadyside High.â

Prepare for a thrilling return to Shadyside! In the latest installment of the haunting Fear Street franchise, prom season at Shadyside High is in full swing, and the schoolâs âit girlsâ are vying for the crown. However, when an unexpected outsider joins the court and students start to vanish, the class of â88 witnesses a prom night transformed into a nightmare.
Director Matt Palmer helms this new series entry, which features a screenplay penned by Palmer and Donald McLeary. The cast includes India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Lili Taylor, and Katherine Waterston.
Director Leigh Janiak helmed the original trilogy, with each film telling its own story in a distinct time period. These films were shot over an extended production. While it remains uncertain if the new film will connect to its predecessors or establish a new series, it appears likely that âProm Queenâ will stand alone rather than launching a long-running storyline.
R.L. Stineâs projects continue to expand, with the renewal of his âGoosebumpsâ TV series for a second season.
