Actor Ross Marquand is known for his role as Aaron on “The Walking Dead,” but he has also portrayed Marvel’s Red Skull in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” and currently voices Charles Xavier in “X-Men ’97.”

Ross Marquand replaced Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, the villain from “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Marquand’s portrayal in “Infinity War” and “Endgame” included iconic scenes that are among the most debated in The Infinity Saga finale. Notably, all of Red Skull’s scenes were filmed in a single day.

ComicBook.com’s Phaze Zero podcast recently interviewed Ross Marquand, who shared his experience filming all of his Red Skull scenes in just one day.

“It was an exceptional way to work, and I appreciate that filming style,” Marquand explained, describing his experience arriving on set and receiving his top-secret scenes as Red Skull. “We completed filming for both films in one day, back-to-back, within eight hours. It’s an unprecedented accomplishment.”

In both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the Soul Stone scenes featuring Red Skull were remarkably condensed, with all of the dialogue filmed in a single day. These scenes carried significant emotional weight, as Thanos sacrificed Gamora to obtain the Stone in Infinity War, while Black Widow sacrificed herself to give Hawkeye and The Avengers a chance to reverse the Snap in Endgame. While it’s possible that some stunt work for the sacrifice sequences was completed on a separate day, the dialogue scenes were likely prioritized.

In the interview, Ross Marquand reveals that he filmed all his Red Skull scenes without makeup or prosthetics, relying solely on dots for CGI face-swapping. Notably, he also shot the Infinity War scenes without Thanos or Gamora.

Fans may interpret these statements as embodying the essence of “movie-making magic,” while others may perceive the industrialized filmmaking approach associated with Marvel Studios.

Ross Marquand’s portrayal of Red Skull in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has become iconic, adding a significant milestone to the actor’s career.
